Almost 16 years ago I commenced a new life journey. At the time I had an 11 month old son, a broken heart and a shattered self-esteem after an disfunctional marriage. I chose to build a new life for my son and myself. A safe life that provided me with financial independence and self-respect.
I enrolled at Curtin University and commenced a Masters of Accounting, already holding an undergraduate degree. Almost a year later I started working as an Assistant Accountant for a wonderful lady who soon became my mentor and good friend. It became rapidly obvious that establishing my own Accounting Practice was my career ambition.
I completed my Masters with Distinction when my son was 7 (yes, it took me 5 ½ years) and he was my guest of honour at my graduation ceremony, a very proud moment for us both! By then I had remarried and had given birth to my second beautiful boy, nearly one at the time.
In 2012 I enrolled in the CPA Professional Program, a gruelling 6 Segment Study Program and accompanying Mentoring Program. By then I was a working mum of three sons aged 2, 4 and 10 years old. The program has been the most rigorous study I’ve ever done.
In 2015 when my fourth son was not yet two, I opened my own Accounting Practice. My passionate approach to my profession, my clients and my business has resulted in my practice growing exponentially and I am so excited to be opening a second office this June in Kalamunda.
On 9 April 2018 I had the privilege of being presented with my CPA Membership Certificate by Mr Dale Pinto, President of the WA Division of CPA Australia. This marks the successful completion of the CPA Professional Program and admission to CPA Australia. My family sat proudly watching me accept the Award, really the result of all our sacrifice’s over the years.
I feel very fortunate to have the opportunities I now have. I am in a position that I can now sponsor our local youth sporting clubs – Roleystone Netball Association and Roleystone Junior Football Club. In addition, I am in the process of working with the Esther Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that supports young women, to set-up a work placement opportunity in my practice. These are the rewards of dreaming big, working hard and never giving up.
